Icarus Robotics Partners with Voyager for Space Station Robot Mission
U.S. robotics startup Icarus Robotics has secured a mission management contract with Voyager Technologies to deploy its free-flying robotic platform, Joyride, on the International Space Station (ISS). The initiative, targeting a 2027 launch, will test autonomous navigation and operational capabilities in microgravity.
The announcement follows Icarus' $6.1 million oversubscribed seed round last September, backed by Soma Capital and Xtal. 'Space is the most exciting place to have robots,' said co-founder Jamie Palmer, emphasizing the robots' role in assisting astronauts with routine tasks.
Voyager will handle launch coordination and safety approvals for the demonstration, which could pave the way for expanded automation in orbital labor. No cryptocurrency or exchange affiliations were identified in this aerospace-focused development.
